Minimum Qualifications
- • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in Fire Science, Fire Management, Public Administration, or closely related field, plus 15 years of increasingly responsible management, supervision, and training related experience in an organized fire department.
- ◦ Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
- • Certification or ability to obtain certification as Head of Department by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
- • Candidates must also possess or be able to immediately obtain upon hire the following licenses/certifications:
- ◦ Valid Class B Exempt Texas Driver License
- ◦ Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Master Firefighter Certification
- ◦ Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Officer 4
- ◦ Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Instructor 3
- ◦ Department of State Health Services (DSHS) EMT or higher
- ◦ NIMS 100/200/300/400/700/800
Preferred Qualifications
- • Experience working in a combination department is preferred, but not required.
- • Experience working in an emergency service district is preferred, but not required.
- • The following Fire Chief executive leadership certifications are preferred:
- ◦ TEEX Fire Service Chief Executive Officer (FSCEO)
- ◦ Texas Fire Chiefs Academy Certified Fire Executive (CFE)
- ◦ National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Executive Fire Officer (EFO)
- ◦ Center for Public Safety Excellence Chief Fire Officer designation (CFO)

Minimum Volunteer Qualifications:

18 years of age.

Submit to a full Criminal History, Background Check and Drivers History Check.

No pending charges, deferred adjudication, or conviction on any class A misdemeanor or felonies. Class B and C misdemeanors; arrests, charges, deferred adjudications and convictions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. All arrests, charges and dispositions must be fully disclosed.

No more than a combination of 3 moving violations and/or vehicle accidents in the past 3 years.

Have vehicle for transportation to and from the station.
Application Process:

Complete all required paperwork. Bring in copies or printouts of all certificates and certifications.

Attend a weekly training nights for station and equipment orientation.
-
Complete the State Fireman’s and Fire Marshal’s Association – Introductory Fire Fighting class, online, on your own time.

Attend an 8 hour, hands on, orientation training class on a Saturday. (This class is usually held on the second Saturday every three months.)
After successful completion of the Introductory phase, you will start the Basic phase:
- Participate in the weekly training nights.

Obtain a Class “B” Driver’s License.

Complete the State Fireman’s and Fire Marshal’s Association, Basic Volunteer Firefighting class online.

Complete your hands on skills and live fire training with your assigned officer.
